How to Make Siri Write Your Emails

Siri hasn't always been the most helpful virtual assistant. Whether it was her meandering responses to simple questions, or her inability to decipher dialectal inflections and phrasing, there were definitely some rough years in beta. But with iOS 7, Apple's disembodied female voice has finally come into her own. One of her more convenient tricks - particularly when your hands are full - is the ability to read and write your emails and iMessages for you.

To do this, simply hold the home key down to wake up Siri, then say "read my email" or "read my iMessages." Once your phone is unlocked, she'll tell you who emailed you and the subject of the email. You can get her to read the content of a specific email by asking her to read you the latest email, or to read an email sent at a particular time. Once she's read it to you, she'll give you an opportunity to reply back. You reply yes or no, and then dictate a reply.

For an iMessage, she'll read you the last iMessage you got then give you the chance to reply.

This is super convenient if you want to multitask - get some emailing done while you're putting away groceries, or perhaps if you're in the car, for those rare occasions when you really need to hear and reply to an email.
