Security Tutorial: Enable 2
Popular Today in Tech: All Popular Articles

With so many social media companies in the news lately for data breaches, it's time to roll up our sleeves and make sure our own accounts are as secure as possible.
And there's nothing quite like a wormy apple! ;)
One way to protect your account is by enabling 2-step login verification.
2-step login verification links an SMS-enabled mobile phone to our account so that the phone can receive a special login pin when we need to connect from a new device, browser, or computer.
However, unlike with several other service providers, Apple has taken a lot of heat from the press for having a 2-Step Login system that is not as secure as users might hope it is. Apple has gone for lighter security, in favor of ease of use, the opposite route that Google takes with their 2-Step Login.
Setting Up Apple 2-Step Login Before You Start: Before you do anything else, bookmark this link. This will come in handy the first time you have trouble with the system and/or lock yourself out! Setting Up Login Verification:
Apple has an FAQ document for their 2-Step verification system found here.
To Get Started:
Log into Apple via the AppleID page.

Click "Manage your Apple ID," then "Password and Security." Select the "Get Started" option.

Now, follow the onscreen instructions.

Apple will send you an email in three days, with instructions on how to finalize the two-step verification.
Unlike other services, Apple also sends you a 14-digit Recovery Key, which you can use to regain your account if you ever lose access to your devices or forget your password.
Keep on Rockin'!
Be sure while you are at it that you set up Facebook 2-step login and Facebook HTTPS as well as Google 2 Step Login (which protects your Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Google+ and Gmail) and Twitter 2 Step Login.
Hope you enjoyed this security tutorial!
