KUSA - Near-record temperatures may say spring is here, but a late-spring Colorado snowstorm headed our way means trouble for vegetation.
The notorious late-spring snowstorms that often hit us during April, and even May, could possibly kill plants that haven't even bloomed yet.
9NEWS spoke with lawn and plant care expert Ralph Bronk to get some tips on how to protect our plants from an unexpected cold snap.
"If it's a newly planted flower, you could protect them by covering them with a sheet or blanket," he said.
He cautioned not to use plastic, since using plastic could cause freeze damage.
"If you have anything that's movable I would bring it in the garage until this freeze potential goes away," he added.
Despite the warm weather, he said it is a bit early to be planting.
Big trees in the front yard are the toughest to protect against snow and cold spells.
Since you can't cover it with anything, Bronk said the best thing to do is to shake the trees as snow accumulates to take some weight off of the branches.
