Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar must know something about balancing parenting and an active sex life.

After all, the stars of TLC's reality show "19 Kids and Counting" have, well, 19 children.

The Duggars recently shared some sex and romance advice with TODAY.com.

Their first tip? Never turn down an opportunity to get it on, even if you're tired.

Michelle said that, before she and Jim Bob were married in 1984, a friend gave her some valuable advice.

"She said, 'In your marriage there will be times you're going to be very exhausted. Your hubby comes home after a hard day's work, you get the baby to bed, and he is going to be looking forward to that time with you,' Michelle recalled in an interview with TODAY.com. "'Be available. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls.'"

Nineteen kids later, it appears that Michelle listened to her friend.

"We're like a newlywed couple every day," Jim Bob added.

However, the couple explained that they take breaks when Michelle has her period. They also abstain from having sex after childbirth (in case you were wondering, their abstinence period is 80 days after the birth of a girl and 40 days after the birth of a boy).

As for the emotional side of their relationship, Jim Bob says, "the husband needs to cherish his wife and always treat his wife like a queen."

The two also know not to expect perfection and to be open about their feelings.

"He shares his heart with me, his struggles, his fears and his dreams," Michelle said. "Many men would not do that, but God's word says that before honor comes humility. When he learns to humble himself before God and me, it builds him up so much in my eyes."

The pair will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in July and they still set aside time for romance. The Duggars have a "date night" every Saturday and they often visit Michelle's favorite ice cream parlor.

"It's a really special time," Jim Bob said.
